La Flor Foods began making high quality corn and flour products in 1991 when Sigifredo Lopez found himself unable to purchase tortillas at a local Salt Lake market. Recognizing an entrepreneurial opportunity, he purchased a tortilla-making machine and started selling tortillas door to door in residential neighborhoods and local Mexican grocery stores.

    By the end of its first year, distribution had expanded to include regional grocery chains including Macy's and Ream's.
